It is difficult to put into words what today means, to capture on paper the historical significance of the events of today.
To many, today was a day that was for so many years completely impossible. "The son of a man, who less than sixty years ago might not have been served in a local restaurant," took a sacred oath to become the President of this great nation. He realized the dream of so many generations and is now a symbol of hope for generations to come.
Some say the task is too great, the challenge too large. He is too young, too inexperienced, he is in over his head.
His critics could be right. Or, as many hope, he could prevail and lead us well.
As for me, I look to history and hope, and I will hearken the words of a great and insightful woman:
"Surely, in the light of history, it is more intelligent to hope rather than to fear, to try rather than not to try. For one thing we know beyond all doubt: Nothing has ever been achieved by the person who says, `It can't be done.'"
