A family trip to Mt. Rainier

After living here all my childhood and much of my adult life, we drove the hour drive from our house and went to Mt. Rainier for the first time yesterday. My dad was visiting and we thought it only appropriate to do something fun.

We decided we'd go on a nice hike, we picked one that was short, not being in very good shape. The one we picked was allegedly 1 & 3/4 miles long and a very good family hike. We soon learned that a one man's definition of easy is very different than another man's.

First, we hiked through the river bed, and were very happy it was the middle of summer and not the spring:

There were a few tense moments, like this one, where I held my breath:

We hiked and we hiked and we hiked....up, up up.

Evie had the hardest job

Finally we made it to the top.

we were feeling very proud and also very fat at the top of the "leisurely stroll" where we hiked straight up

Of course, I had to shoot some shots of the scenery:

And just so nobody thinks that I got the easy job, I also had a backpack, filled with the food, water and of course my camera, ridiculously heavy tripod etc. I just took it off for pictures since it wasn't very "flattering," if you will.

We took that same trail when the boys were about Evie's age. I remember being decidedly scared out of my mind to cross that bridge!
