Domestic Goddess..

So my good friend Karen has created a monster. She is a self-proclaimed "sling-whore," a woman who has more babycarying devices than Amelda Marcos has shoes. She introduced me to the sling and mei-tai...a Japanese-syle baby carrier. I'm a huge fan of the Mei-Tai, and I also discovered the Beco baby carrier. The prices have caused me to choke however, so I decided that I could make them myself. With grandma's old 1960s Singer Instamatic, I went to work. Karen had already gifted a fabulous genuine Mei-Tai to me, so I used it as a pattern for my homemade one. She then mailed her Beco carrier all the way from Colorado, so that I could make a pattern off of it. Below are my first attempts. The khaki and pink carrier is the Mei-Tai, the khaki and green chckered carrier is the Beco. I prefer the Mei-Tai.
