Ok, I am 35 weeks pregnant. Not quite there yet, but things are progressing, and since I've been on bedrest for contractions, there is a possibility that once I start moving about a little more next weeks, we might go a little early. As such, I'm trying to get everything put together and organized in the chance that little miss moffat comes early. (This may also just be nesting, and, well I am already a type-A, anal retentive first-born, who are we kidding?)
I put together a "go to the hospital bag" yesterday but am not really sure what I really need to take, and what is just adding extra weight. So far I've got a t-shirt and a pair of comfy sweats, a couple pairs of undies and socks. I've got a small bag of jolly ranchers, my digital camera with batteries and an empty card and my ipod. And of course the usual hygeine products. Anything else I need?
And what about a diaper bag? I assume I don't really need one in the hospital b/c they'll provide what I'll need, yes? I am bringing a blanket and a "coming home" outfit, but do I really need anything else for her?
Besides diapers, wipes, a change or two of clothes, a couple pacis and maybe a toy, what else goes in a diaper bag? This may all be stuff I know I can figure out eventually, but I'm bored out of my mind, and when one is bored and pregnant, one tries to organize and plan. As you know, I don't have my mom to ask these questions of, so any tricks of the trade are most welcome.

I suggest taking your own towel for showers. The towels they give you in the hospital can be classified as hand towels at best, and very thin and scratchy. And you WILL want to take a shower!
As far as baby stuff goes, you don't need much in the hospital. I think you have all you'll actually use.
If I think of anything else I'll let you know!

I've heard lay off on the pacis until the baby establishes nursing; it's easier to latch on to a paci than the real thing... but bring them just in case. Your own bathrobe is a nice touch and some socks with rubber grips on the bottom or slippers. You probably won't want to be bending over too much so something you can slip your feet into will be better than something that requires bending.
I don't think you need anything else for the diaper bag, I'm assuming you mean for daily use?? Perhaps some receiving blankets for burping, spit-ups or other "leaks". I don't carry a diaper bag and hardly ever have. One of the best suggestions I received was to set up a "car pack" with a weather appropriate change of clothes, diapers, wipes and plastic bags (for yucky clothes and diapers). That has really served us well, we only bring extra things if we know we'll be out for a while, but usually we just grab an extra diaper, a toy or book and some snacks. If you search online for what should go in a diaper bag you'll get a gigantic list, I don't get it though. Where are these people taking their babies? Bolivia? Just stick to the basics and you'll figure out which toys or blankets are "must haves" when you're out. For us it was Glow Pooh! 80)
